Riley's Boo Boo & 8 Months Old

Last Saturday, Riley turned 8 months old. I know I keep saying this, but wow, time goes by so fast. 4 months ago we almost lost this amazing little girl; but seeing her now, you would have never known she was sick.

Last Saturday was actually really hard on me as a mother. Riley got her first major boo boo. Aaron & I did a pumpkin give-away for the neighborhood we work in, Olinda Ranch. We had our table set up all nice, & pumpkins set out on display. We just had to get a picture of Riley with the pumpkins, right? Well, she was so excited about getting her picture taken, that she kicked up her legs & ended up catapulting forward onto a pumpkin. The stem of the pumpkin gouged her face pretty good. She started crying & I just kept thinking, "I am a horrible mother." My reflexes are just not that fast. We did not even get that good of a picture. Here is the picture before the fall. See those hands off to left, yes those are mine. They were told to move out of the picture, but then they were obviously not fast enough to catch her from falling that very short fall. I wonder if she will be psychologically scarred & afraid of pumpkins her whole life. I doubt it.

Here is Riley' latest & greatest:

  • She started putting sounds together. She mostly repeated something that sounded like "da-da-da-da," but then moved onto clicking (like her Grandpa Mills).
  • She has added pears, zucchini, green beans, cottage cheese, wheat bread, Gerber puffs & chicken to her food repertoire. She still hates peas.
  • She enjoys playing on her stomach more now, but otherwise she still has not show too many signs of crawling. She will roll from one place to another though.
  • She enjoys taking things out of baskets & bags.
  • No teeth yet!
  • She has started imitating her cousin. When she gets excited, she flaps her arms & squeals in delight.
  • So far, no separation anxiety when left with a baby sitter or in the church nursery. We are blessed. :-)
