I have been meaning to write about a big moment in our baby girl's life that occurred a few weeks ago, but I have never quite had the chance, or a good picture for it. Well, I think this picture works quite well. Saturday, September 1st, Riley Mae's ears were pierced. To pierce or not to pierce? I was not really sure which way to go. Over the the first six months of her life, I asked several mothers, especially ones with baby girls. Many said that they got their baby's ears pierced at 4 months, 5 months, & one as early as 1 1/2 months. The older they are, the dirtier their hands & the more they will grab at them. Sometimes older babies will tear them out or contribute to them getting infected. I got mine done when I was 12 & it hurt! I cried...& I remember it. Having it done this early, babies will not remember the pain...BUT the parents will.
Oh man, it was tough for us. Aaron had to hold her on his lap, hold her head in one place, restrain her arms while I grabbed her legs. She was basically strapped down. She knew something was up & started getting fussy. One, two & it was done. Daddy lifted her up & took her outside in the mall to watch the people as she recovered; and of course, she was a rock star! She screamed & cried when they did the actual piercing, but when Aaron scooped her up in his arms & whisked her away, she just gave the girl who shot her a dirty look. By the time we were done paying & left the store, she was asleep. The whole event was much tougher on us parents than it was on her, I think.
Well, so here she is now - sparkles on her ears & a purple tiara on her head. She is on her way to becoming our little princess (even though Aaron does not like the whole princess thing). :-)
