You know how a lot of people have a list of what things they want to do before they die? Well, last Monday, while we were still in Scotland, I got to do one of those things. It seems kind of strange now. It wasn't a huge deal, but I was always fascinated with myths & legends as a child; so, of course, while we were there, I had to take a trip to the legendary Loch Ness.
Aaron, Jason, their dad, Richard & I took a guided tour through the Highlands & around the various Lochs (Loch Lomond, Loch Linnhe, Loch Lochy & Loch Oich) to the famous Loch Ness & Urquhart Castle. They say that if is not raining in Scotland, wait 5 minutes. The same is really true when it is not sunny...just wait 5 minutes. We traveled through rain, mist, sun, wind, it felt like everything but snow. Our guide told us how great Loch Ness was when it was misty, much eerier. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it was beautifully sunny by the time we reached Loch Ness.
In the Misty, but still beautiful Glencoe
We saw a beautiful complete rainbow traveling in the bus.
This Mountain was used in the Harry Potter films. (Hagrid's Home)
Some "cheeky wee" Loch Ness facts:
- Measures approximately 23 miles in length.
- Its deepest point is about 754 feet.
- It is the second largest Loch (surface area) in Scotland.
- It contains more fresh water than all the lakes in England & Wales combined!
- Urquhart Castle is located on the shores of the Loch.

Okay, there was a part of me that thought maybe, just maybe, I would see the monster, or something unexplainable.
We arrived back in Glasgow later that evening & had to walk across George Square. It was a beautiful night & a beautiful ending to a beautiful day.
