How does she know?

Yes, there are many wonderous, miraculous things that a baby does that are a mystery to me. How did they know that this did that or that this was meant for that? The concepts of gravity, cause & effect, aerodynamics should be way beyond them...right? Well, maybe not. I mean many of those basics scientific theory are so real that we come into contact with them every day & don't even know it. We don't even realize. Many of the things we learn in school about science are so common sense, it is hard for us to understand why someone had to have an apple fall on his head to write a theory about something called gravity.

So, basic, scientific, everyday concepts are understandable, even to a toddler (yes, that is right, Riley is now a toddler). Gravity, cause & effect, etc...., but how on earth does she know how to use a rotary phone?

Of course she has seen us use a cell phone, & on minor occassion, a cordless phone; but I can't imagine when in her short little life she has ever even seen a rotary phone!

This was both adorable & amazing at the same time. We were playing on the floor of her room & she crawled over to her new phone (that looks just like one I had as a kid too). She picks up the receiver, holds it to her ear & waits to hear something. After I say "Hello Riley," she hangs up the phone. This was repeated several times, each time eliciting a wide smile & lots of excitement.

Thank you to the Enniss & Davis Families for giving her this nostalgic & awesome phone that she amazed me with! She amazes me everyday.

Glad you learned how to talk on the phone, cause our distance is gonna merit some serious cousin/auntie/uncle talks- we love you!
