It is 4 am (Glasgow time), Saturday, September 14, 2007. I am eating animal crackers, wanting some of Megan’s left over homemade lasagna, but trying to show some will power & Aaron is in the shower. Riley woke up around 2am & is really confused. Why is it dark & why are we all asleep? Try explaining jet lag & time changes to an infant, & I do not think you will get very far.
Our adventure started at 4:30am (PST) when Aaron, Riley & I packed up our SUV & headed over to his parents’ to have his dad drive us to the airport. Overall, we are surprised at how positive we felt during the whole trip; despite arriving at the wrong check-in (on the opposite side of LAX), not getting the bassinet/bulkhead seating that we arrived 3+ hours early at the airport to get, having to check Riley’s stroller, having a plane delay which essentially equated o a 7 hour layover in Philadelphia, & being up right now writing this blog.
(Hanging out at the Philadelphia Airport during our 7 hour layover.)
I know everyone’s first question, & no they do not where underwear under their quilts. Okay, maybe that was not your first question. It was probably, how did Riley do on the plane? The answer, in one word – amazing! We had several people tell us that she was the best baby they had ever seen on a plane. This is probably what made the whole traveling part so manageable. She was great. For the most part people were friendly to us, because Riley would just look at them & smile. She slept when she should, ate well, & had fun playing & looking around at all the people.
Shout out - Oh, I have to say thank you to William from US Airways for getting us the bulkhead seating on our longer flight from Philadelphia to Glasgow. He is awesome & our hero of the day.
And of course, the reason we are here, we finally got to see our brother & sister-in-law, Jason & Megan, & meet our adorable nephew Christian.
